The Making of a Bespoke Dining Table

The Making of a Bespoke Dining Table

13 April 2023

Our clients had specific requirements for the Dining Room of their home. A table to seat six was necessary but with an occasional option for eight people.

Extendable bespoke dining table

As the client did not want to store extension leaves separate to the table itself, our design team faced the question of how to accommodate the extension within its base. The challenge was made even more complex when our client requested an 8mm glass top to the table in its compact format.

We designed a folding extension leaf that stowed within the pedestal base of the table. For ease of operation it moved along guide channels, with its weight supported by an assisted lift platform beneath the leaf. The extension opens like butterfly wings, then falls into place before locating pins connect it to the main table top. The central leaf is designed in a complementary painted lacquer and its thickness is increased by 8mm to see the level of the parted glass tops.

The flame walnut veneer of the table top and the inset 'champagne' brass trims are beautiful and dramatic.

In detail.
